Dirty Theology: Lessons on Justice, Grace, & God in the Dirt (w/ Christine Sine & A.J. Swoboda)
Lamentably, when we think about God’s mission in the world and our participation in it, God’s relationship to and concern for creation and our calling to be faithful stewards of it are usually located at the periphery of our radar – if they appear at all!
Fortunately, thoughtful and engaged leaders such as Christine Sine (Author and Executive Director of Mustard Seed Associates) and A.J. Swoboda (Pastor of Theophilus Church and Professor at George Fox Evangelical Seminary) are helping us to revisit this vital dimension of God’s redemptive mission in the world.
In the workshop offered below, Christine and A.J. offer engaging stories and compelling thoughts and reflections on the intersection of justice, grace, and the presence and work of God in creation as well as our relationship to it as part of the created order. They turn their attention as well to issues related to living locally and sustainably where we find ourselves.
What about you…
- How do you understand the relationship between creation, justice, and mission?
- Are there practical ways that you/your church has been impacted by a theology of creation?
- What resources have been helpful to you in this area?
Workshop Description:
How does God’s mission have anything to do with living alongside and for the created order? And what are ways in which we can partner in solidarity with God’s mission to create sustainable change in our world? In this workshop, we will juxtapose two driving ideas. First, A.J. will propose “reverse theology” as a method of practically shaping theology through personal experience with creation. Second, Christine will offer profound reflections on what she has learned and we can learn about God from her time in the dirt.
